It’s easy to give in to the urge to go out to eat every night when you live in Southtown apartments. Living here means being surrounded by some of the city’s best restaurants, which makes it hard to save money by cooking for yourself every night. We understand, and we’re here to help.
We’re not going to tell you to avoid going out to eat altogether, because that doesn’t sound like any fun. Instead, we’re going to tell you how to spend a little bit less when you do go out to eat! The tips in this post should be viewed as habits, not one time things. The savings might not seem that big the first couple times you go out to eat, but they’ll start adding up over a couple months. The more you save, the more you’ll be able to go out to eat.
Without further delay, let’s take a look at the list of ways to save at restaurants. When you’re done reading this week’s post, please be sure to share it with your friends and neighbors at Southtown Flats — the Southtown apartments San Antonio residents choose for luxury living.
Tip #1 — Check your inbox
Think about how many emails you get every day from websites like OpenTable and Groupon. Your Yelp app probably sends you offers all the time too, but we’ve grown so accustomed to these notifications that we start to ignore them. You could have hundreds of dollars in savings sitting in your inbox and you wouldn’t even know it! Before you plan your next dinner date, check your inbox to see if you’ve got any special offers waiting in there. You’ll probably be glad you did.
Tip #2 — Take your food to go
This next time works better at some restaurants than others. Some restaurants have incredible ambiance that’s worth paying for, but others serve food just tastes just as good whether you at it in the restaurant or at your apartment.
If you take your food to go, you won’t have to pay for a tip, extra drinks or sides that the waiter convinces you to order. Instead of paying for all that, get your own drinks, make your own appetizer, and save a ton of money by ordering your food to go!
Tip #3 — Turn dinner into happy hour
You can save a lot of money on your dinner bill by arriving at the restaurant early enough to take advantage of happy hour pricing on drinks and apps. Your actual entree might not be discounted, but drinks and appetizers are two of the most expensive parts of the meal, anyway. Next time you have dinner plans, try to get to the restaurant before 6:00!
One last thing; arriving early can also help you save money if you decide to go to breakfast or lunch instead of dinner, as those two meals are usually way more affordable than the dinner entrees.
With that, we’ve reached the end of our list of money-saving habits! We hope you’re able to use these habits to save a little dough next time you dine out, and we thank you for taking some time out of your day to read the latest edition of the Southtown Flats blog!
